Treatment approach
Specialist physiotherapy, shaped around you
TMJ Physio focuses on assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention for temporomandibular dysfunction and related head, neck and facial symptoms.
A considered, individual plan
TMJ Physio is a physiotherapy practice dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of temporomandibular dysfunction. Jaw disorders are often associated with headaches, neck pain and migraines, so assessment considers the wider pattern of symptoms as well as the jaw itself.
The aim is to help you understand your condition and take an active part in managing it. Your plan is tailored to your assessment and may include physiotherapy techniques and advice to support self-management and prevention.
Treatment approaches
Physiotherapy management may draw on manual therapy, myofascial techniques, exercise therapy, acupuncture, electrotherapy and advice. The choice of approach depends on your individual assessment.
- Manual therapy to support normal joint movement and mobility of the soft tissues around the TMJ.
- Myofascial techniques that use pressure and release to address sensitive or tight areas in the jaw and neck muscles.
- Exercise therapy to build control, mobility and stability around the jaw, with postural re-education where appropriate.
- Acupuncture, including traditional acupuncture or trigger-point techniques, as part of a physiotherapy plan when appropriate.
- Electrotherapy, including low-level laser therapy, which the clinic describes as an option for TMD management.
- Advice to help you understand contributing factors and manage your condition between appointments.
